Leon County Supervisor of Elections Announces Post-Election Activities for 2024 General Election
Leon County, FL – Mark S. Earley, Supervisor of Elections for Leon County, announces post-Election Day activities for the 2024 General Election. “Although Election Day has passed, the General Election is not yet over,” said Supervisor Earley. “Preliminary results have been available since election night, but there are still several steps along the road before we have the final official election results for the General Election.”
Election Results
Voters can view preliminary election results by visiting LeonVotes.gov and clicking on the ‘Results’ button. The preliminary results include nearly every ballot cast in the election. However, a small number of provisional ballots and Vote-by-Mail ballots with signature issues still need to be reviewed. This includes Vote-by-Mail ballots from overseas voters, which can be received up to 10 days after Election Day. We do not expect these additional ballots will change any outcomes or trigger any recounts in this election.
On Friday, November 8, the Leon County Canvassing Board will submit the first set of unofficial results to the Florida Department of State. These will include the remaining domestic Vote-by-Mail ballots and eligible provisional ballots. The first unofficial results form the basis for determining whether a recount will be triggered by law.
The Florida Secretary of State declares recounts for statewide or multi-county races. At this time, it does not appear that any races appearing on Leon County ballots will go to a recount.
On Saturday, November 16, the Leon County Canvassing Board will certify Leon County’s Official Results for the 2024 General Election and submit them to the Florida Department of State.
Post-Election Audit
Immediately after the official results are submitted to the State, the Elections Office will conduct a post-election audit. In its commitment to providing outstanding voter services, the Leon County Supervisor of Elections Office audits each election to the highest standards possible. The Elections Office will audit every vote in every race on every ballot in Leon County to ensure the accuracy of the reported results and the integrity of the election.
Campaign Sign Clean-Up and Recycling
In an effort to keep our community tidy, the Elections Office has partnered with Leon County Government, Marpan Recycling, and the League of Women Voters of Tallahassee to help campaigns and the community recycle campaign signs. Large recycling bins are currently stationed throughout Leon County, giving voters and political campaigns an easy and convenient option to recycle their old signs. Both the plastic signs and the metal wire stands can be recycled through this limited time initiative. Please do not place campaign signs or wire stands in curbside recycling bins, as these items cannot be processed through standard curbside collection. Instead, bring them to designated recycling bins available at various locations throughout the County, as listed below.
Sign recycling bins are available at each Leon County Branch Library for one week after each election.
