Citizen Initiative Petitions

Citizens of Florida have the power to amend the Florida Constitution and local governing documents by way of the ballot. Amendments to these documents are placed on the ballot by way of the Citizen Initiative Petition process. Read below for further information about the Citizen Initiative Petition process.

Florida Constitutional Amendment Initiatives

Visit the Division of Elections’ website for information about the initiative process to amend the Florida Constitution. On this page you can also view a list of active proposed constitutional amendments and the number of signatures each one has obtained statewide.

Leon County Charter and Ordinance Initiatives

Any resident of Leon County can propose an amendment to the county charter or county ordinances. Visit the Leon County initiatives page  to learn more about the process.

Tallahassee City Charter Initiatives

Petition Verification Fees

Starting on July 1, 2025, sponsors of statewide citizen initiatives must pay $4.70 per petition submitted for verification.

Sponsors of local citizen initiatives must pay 10 cents per petition submitted.

Our office will promptly verify petition forms within the required timeframes after receipt and payment of a fee for the cost of signature verification incurred by the supervisor. (s. 99.097(4), 100.371(11)(a)&(b), F.S.)
