Drop Boxes/Secure Ballot Intake Stations

Rather than sending your Vote-by-Mail ballot through the mail, you can return it using one of our Secure Ballot Intake Stations (also known as drop boxes). Each drop box is staffed by election workers to make sure that your ballot is safe.

The ballot must be sealed in the special return envelope and signed by the voter.

We can only accept Leon County Vote-by-Mail ballots at our drop boxes. You cannot drop off a ballot from another Florida County or another state at at Leon County drop box.

Where are Drop Boxes Located?

Drop boxes are located outside each Early Voting site during the days and hours of Early Voting. You can view the locations, dates, and times on our Early Voting page.

You can also drop off a Vote-by-Mail ballot at the Elections Office from 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday to Friday, with hours extended to 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. on Election Day.

Can I Drop Off my Ballot at an Election Day Polling Place?

No, you cannot drop-off your Vote-by-Mail ballot at an Election Day polling place. The only drop box available on Election Day is located at the Elections Office.

If you requested a vote-by-mail ballot, you can still vote in person, as long as you have not returned your Vote-by-Mail ballot.

How Do You Keep Drop Boxes Secure?

We treat the security of our drop boxes with the utmost importance. Drop boxes are only located at Early Voting sites and our main office. They are only available during voting hours or when our main office is open. They are always monitored and staffed by an election worker when they are available.

At the end of each day, we empty the drop box and securely transport the ballots, sealed within their return envelopes, back to our main office. The empty drop box is then stored inside until the next morning. All returned Vote-by-Mail ballots must be sealed in a special tracking envelope that is signed by the voter.
