The Leon County Supervisor of Elections Office relies on a dedicated staff of election professionals to provide the voters of Leon County with outstanding voter services. 

Our office has around 25 full time employees who serve year round. We also hire seasonal staff who serve with us for single election cycles. These positions typically are hired at the beginning of each election year and last through November of the same calendar year.

Election Worker Training Support - These positions have been filled

3 positions starting 3/2/26

This team of three is responsible for training, retaining, and supporting close to 1,000 election day workers to run polling sites throughout the county on election day. Team members must be able to interact with individuals from various backgrounds, as well as those with various learning styles.

Customer Service Duties Include:

  • Serve as primary contact for election day workers, assist with election day assignments, training class schedules, reminders, and special requests.
  • Answer phone calls from the election worker hotline with professional, friendly, and effective communication skills.
  • Facilitate teamwork between election workers
  • Identify and report difficulties or concerns to the Election Day Manager
  • Foster and maintain a sense of pride and belonging among election day workers

Administrative and Training Duties Include:

  • Assist election day workers with scheduling, polling locations changes, and required training classes
  • Train election workers
  • Attend and assist with election day worker training classes when not teaching
  • Input and update databases that will support reports from 3 different platforms
  • Coordinate polling location teams to ensure all positions are filled and diverse
  • Seek opportunities to recruit new election day workers

Work is primarily done in an office setting. Most of the time will be spent on the phone and in a classroom training environment. You must be comfortable learning new computer hardware and software, including voting machines, electronic pollbooks, and the Florida Voter Registration System. Patience, diligence and people-focused is the motto for this team. Training election day workers gives them the skills, materials, and confidence they need to conduct orderly, professional, and accurate elections, which ensures a positive experience for voters.

Early Voting and Logistical Support

4 positions starting 5/4/26

This team provides support for the administrative functions to run 10 Early Voting locations throughout the county. Responsibilities of team members may adjust between slower periods, peak early voting times, and election day as operational needs change. Members will specialize in the specific early voting project area that best fits their interests and skill sets and can expect to cross train with various project teams to lend support as needed.

Shared Duties Include:

  • Data entry of voter registration forms and voter transactions
  • Preparing and updating databases and reports
  • Communicating effectively and efficiently with co-workers and the general public
  • Providing warehouse logistics support
  • Preparing, packing, and inventorying supplies
  • Testing voting equipment and other light office equipment
  • Tracking, deploying, and retrieving critical materials to and from voting sites
  • Supporting social media platform engagement
  • Supporting voter registration drives outside of the early voting period

Duties for Early Voting Clerks:

  • Supervising workers and voting activities at one of 10 voting sites in the county
  • Overseeing daily voting activity and troubleshooting complex voting transactions
  • Assuring election laws and procedures are followed
  • Reconciling daily ballot totals and compiling data reports
  • Following and reinforcing security and safety protocols
  • Providing conflict resolution, with guidance from the Early Voting Manager and main office
  • Serving as liaison with the facility host, rovers, third-party security teams, and the main office

Most positions require an insurable driver’s license and a reliable, personal vehicle. Applicants MUST have the ability and be willing to spend long periods of time standing or walking (including on concrete floors) in a warehouse environment, and the ability to lift up to twenty pounds.

These team members will work primarily at the Leon County Elections Center (in a mix of warehouse and office settings). Warehouse setting work is expected and will include packing and inventorying supplies, and testing voting equipment. Roughly two weeks before each election, some team members will be reassigned to one of 10 early voting sites as an Early Voting Clerk. Others will be reassigned to multiple sites as a Rover. Significant and consistent overtime with ten-hour days, including weekends, during these early voting periods and on election day are required.

This team is a great fit for individuals who enjoy collaborating on dynamic projects and actively seek out diverse types of work as opposed to waiting for delegated tasks.

Vote-by-Mail Support

3 positions starting 5/4/26

This team helps ensure that the Vote-by-Mail process is accessible, accountable, and accurate from start to finish. Vote-by-Mail support will be responsible for processing Vote-by-Mail requests, issuing those ballots, supporting the Leon County Canvassing Board by verifying and accounting for returned ballots prior to tabulation, troubleshooting various situations to help ensure all eligible ballots are ultimately counted, and answering voter questions about the process. Team members work collaboratively on shared duties and may be assigned one or more specialized duties based on specific interests and skill sets.

Shared Duties Include:

  • Processing Vote-by-Mail requests
  • Verifying signatures on Vote-by-Mail Ballots
  • Scanning and filing documents
  • Quality assurance checking of items for accuracy
  • Answering a multi-line phone system
  • Communicating in writing and by phone with voters to resolve issues

Specialized Duties May Include:

Roughly six weeks before each election, Vote-by-Mail team members will move to a staggered shift schedule with some members working early morning hours and others working evening hours. About two weeks before each election, overtime requirements can include some ten-hour days, including weekends.

Voter Services Support

1 position starting 4/6/26

This team gives many citizens their first impression of the office—by providing outstanding customer service in person, via email, and on the phone. Attention to detail and commitment to accurate data entry are essential in assuring the voting public can easily and confidently cast their vote during elections. Members of this team may specialize in the specific Voter Services project area that best fits their interests and skill sets and may cross train with various project teams to lend support as needed.

Shared Duties include:

  • Process voter registration updates
  • Answer and transfer phone calls using a multi-line phone system
  • Assist voters in person in the reception area
  • Use computers to access voter registration and election records
  • Scan and file documents
  • Quality assurance checking of processed items for accuracy
  • Maintain document archives

Specialized Duties Include:

  • Navigate across multiple approved, specialized software platforms
  • Create and manage case files by analyzing voter demographics

Work weeks average 40 hours with some short periods of overtime (rotated among staff members) to meet occasionally unpredictable workloads. Overtime is required during early voting periods and on election day. Professionalism in appearance and conduct is of utmost importance. Successful candidates must be comfortable learning and handling sensitive information within a digital environment.

Ballot Processing Support

1 position starting 4/6/26

This team provides administrative and clerical support to the Leon County Canvassing Board by organizing meetings, verifying and accounting for returned ballots prior to and throughout tabulation. Additionally, this team will operate and troubleshoot various mail and tabulation equipment to help ensure all eligible ballots are ultimately counted. When Canvassing Board periods are not happening, team members work collaboratively on shared duties with the Vote-by-Mail Team. As such, individuals hired for this team can expect to cross train to lend support to other project areas as needed.

Canvassing Duties Include:

  • Attending and providing support at Canvassing Board meetings
  • Drafting Board Meeting Minutes
  • Operating office equipment, including envelope openers, scanners, etc.
  • Supporting the coordination of a small team of Election Workers, who will also process ballots
  • Quality assurance checking of items for accuracy
  • Communicating frequently in writing, by phone, and in-person with members of the public and elected officials

Vote-by-Mail Duties May Include:

  • Preparing material for Canvassing Board review
  • Operating in-house mail equipment, including inserter and sorter
  • Managing the team’s daily mail process, both outgoing and incoming
  • Verifying signatures on Vote-by-Mail Ballots
  • Communicating in writing and by phone with voters to resolve issues
  • Scanning and filing documents
  • Researching Vote-by-Mail related issues

  • A commitment to continue employment with us through November 2026 (Once training is complete, it is very difficult for us to replace team members in time for a successful election. If you don’t believe you can commit to the entire assignment, these positions won’t be the right fit for you.).

Seasonal Benefits

Most seasonal positions include the following:

  • Voluntary healthcare coverage (premium cost shared with employer).
  • Automatic enrollment in the Florida Retirement System.
  • Hiring ranges starting at $16.00 per hour and varying based on experience and specific job responsibilities.
  • Full-time hours (40 per week) with generally a Monday-Friday 8-5 schedule and an hour for lunch.
  • Significant periods of overtime during the few weeks leading up to and after each 2026 election (Election Days: August 18th and November 3rd).
  • Overtime paid at time-and-a-half; may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Other Personnel Services (OPS) status; these employees accrue 1-hour/week of paid time off.
