This page lists key election dates for the 2024 election cycle. 

Election Day

The election days for 2024 are:

  • Presidential Preference Primary Election: March 19
  • Primary Election: August 20
  • General Election: November 5

Voter Registration Deadlines (Book Closing)

The voter registration deadlines for 2024 are:

  • Presidential Preference Primary Election: February 20 (includes party change deadline)
  • Primary Election: July 22 (includes party change deadline)
  • General Election: October 7

Vote-by-Mail Ballots

Presidential Preference Primary Election

  • Initial mail-out to military and overseas voters: No later than February 3
  • Initial mail-out to domestic voters: Between February 8 – 15
  • Deadline to request to be mailed your ballot: 5 p.m., March 7
  • Deadline for us to receive your ballot: 7 p.m., March 19

A special 10-day extension exists for overseas voters to return their ballots in the Presidential Preference Primary Election election. For more information on the extension, visit our Military and Overseas Voting webpage

Primary Election

  • Initial mail-out to military and overseas voters: No later than July 6
  • Initial mail-out to domestic voters: Between July 11 – 18
  • Deadline to request to be mailed your ballot: 5 p.m., August 8
  • Deadline for us to receive your ballot: 7 p.m., August 20

General Election

  • Initial mail-out to military and overseas voters: No later than September 21
  • Initial mail-out to domestic voters: Between September 26 – October 3
  • Deadline to request to be mailed your ballot: 5 p.m., October 24
  • Deadline for us to receive your ballot: 7 p.m., November 5

Early Voting Period

The Early Voting periods in Leon County for 2024 are:

  • Presidential Preference Primary Election: Saturday, March 9 - Sunday, March 17
  • Primary Election: Saturday, August 10 - Sunday, August 18
  • General Election: Monday, October 21 - Sunday, November 3

Drop Boxes

Vote-by-Mail ballot drop boxes will be at each Early Voting site during the hours of Early Voting:

  • Presidential Preference Primary Election:  Saturday, March 9 - Sunday, March 17
  • Primary Election: Saturday, August 10 - Sunday, August 18
  • General Election: Monday, October 21 - Sunday, November 3

A drop box will be at the Elections Center during regular business hours starting as soon as Vote-by-Mail ballots are available through Election Day.
